Pierre Bensusan: In Concert at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland, Oregon (posted on 03/24/14 @ 05:54 PST)
I recently discovered Pierre Bensusan, a remarkable man who is on his Fortieth Anniversary Tour. Imagine: Forty years. More than 3,000 performances spanning the globe. Although I had listened many, many times to his Encore CD collection, I was in for a very special treat when I saw his live performance in Portland, Oregon during the USA leg of his Fortieth Anniversary Tour. I was enchanted by the whole of what I experienced. I simply couldn't take my eyes and ears away from the stage. (read the review)

Kimmo Kalaja has managed to take a Ramones feel, blend it with some killer surf, and create a melody-driven, mind-blistering unique sound. Aloud: It's Got To Be Now (posted on 03/10/14 @ 19:58 PDT)
When I heard Aloud, it reminded me of the halcyon days when there was an amazing female and dynamic male voice lending fullness and panache to beautifully and powerfully written songs. What? What? WHAT? Did I really just compare Aloud to Ella Fitzgerald and Bill Kenny of The Inkspots? Oh, baby, I sure did! It's a treat beyond compare to get a new duo trading out like the old days. I can't tell you how hot damn good these guys are. (read the review)

Fruits de Mer Records announces CRABSTOCK - April 2014 (posted on 03/08/14 @ 14:01 PST)
Get out your maps, because Fruits de Mer is heading for sunny Wales in April 2014....
Fruits de Mer Records and Sendelica announce an evening of acoustic and electric psychedelia featuring a great line-up of FdM artists.
After the success of our first live event – the 2013 summer all-dayer at the Borderline Club in London, FdM seeks out its Welsh connection with 8 hours of music at Cardigan's warm and cozy Cellar Bar, home of the UFO Club, and all organised by the wonderful Sendelica!
Early-bird (/fish) tickets are just £10 and that includes a FDM GOODIE BAG to the first 100 people through the door (received on entry to the venue) including an exclusive FdM compilation (A borderline goodie bag solf on ebay for over £125, and the Fruits de Mer Cd compilation alone for £70+).
Sendelica will be playing a full electric set; they are, of course, Fruits de Mer regulars, featuring on many releases – from their stunning version of The Velvet Underground's 'Venus In Furs' to a sidelong track on the 'strangefish' series of albums.
(PROG magazine rated their new album #2 in their top 5 albums of 2013, it also featured in US Goldmine Magazine's top albums of 2013)
Earthling Society will be playing a full electric set – they too have delivered a Fruits de Mer single as well as tracks on 2013's strangefish set. Their latest album, 'Zodiak', was another of PROG magazine's top 5 albums..."if Primal Scream covered Hawkwind, they'd sound like this".
But that's not all – there will also be acoustic sets by:
James McKeown – who, as well as leading Bristol's Hi-Fiction Science, is a brilliant solo artist in his own right, contributing wonderfully atmospheric guitar+electronics tracks to the strangefish box set; James has been played regularly by Gideon Coe on his BBC 6Music show.
Crystal Jacqueline – Jacqui's forthcoming double 7" on Fruits de Mer will feature covers of songs by Curved Air, Mighty Baby and The Electric Prunes. Her latest album, 'Sun Arise' was voted one of Goldmine magazine's best albums of 2013.
Jack Ellister – Jack will be coming over from the Netherlands especially to open the festival (as he did for the Borderline event). Jack brings his new psych edge to songs by Syd Barrett, The Beatles and his own compositions - a smashing guy!
DJ Wally Stagg...... legendary vocalist on Sendelica's version of 'Journey To The Centre Of The Mind' released on FDM's 'Keep Off The Grass' double LP..... he'll spend the evening spinning obscure psyche classics inbetween bands...... an aural treat.....
PLUS
Stalls selling exclusive Fruits de Mer vinyl and signed copies of releases by all the featured artists
PLUS
'Crabstock – the CD' – a limited-edition CD with tracks by all the artists appearing at Crabstock, limited to 250 copies and available exclusively on a first-come-first-served basis to people attending the festival – a future collectible, for sure.
AND

The Coconauts: I Drove My Car To Heaven (posted on 03/06/14 @ 19:29 PST)
The Coconauts' I Drove My Car To Heaven is an eargasmic delight. The three original instrumental tunes showcase the depth, diversity and direction of the band. The trio punches out as much sound as any band with four, five, or even six members. Excellent musicianship and excellent sounds permeate I Drove My Car To Heaven. (read the review)
The Razorblades: Snapshots From The Underground (posted on 03/04/14 @ 20:42 PST)
Dear friends and friends of friends of friends, I ask you as a fellow traveler on the journey - don't bogart the new Razorblades CD. These blades cut right to the quick and that's summum bonum - the highest good. The Razor dudes are, by their own statement, moving on to new ground and reinventing their sound. (read the review)
The Pyronauts European Tour Kickoff Show and New Live CD (posted on 03/02/14 @ 15:51 PST)
This blistering live CD features The Pyronauts at their best in San Francisco!
The Pyronauts have been a surf rock band for over 15 years. 2014 marks their first European tour and the release of their newest CD: Live in San Francisco. The band's history goes back to 1998 when four kids: Paul, Bob, Gabe, and Leigh started a group called Fire Arm. A few gigs later the band changed the name to The Pyronauts (meaning explorers of fire and paying homage to surf band The Astronauts). The current line up is the groups longest running line up yet. The Brett Cole, bass, joined in 2003 and Tim Stephenson joined shortly after on the drums.
Over the years the band has performed up and down California... 640 gigs in total! That's well over 1500 hours of performing, untold number of hours rehearsing, and probably close to 10,000 hours driving in the band van (the unsung hero of the group). The band's albums have been recognized with 5 star reviews, they have appeared on television numerous times, opened for Dick Dale an astonishing 20 times, and have entertained thousands upon thousands of people - all while playing the music that they love - surf!
This project is to raise the funds for the release of their 8th album: Live from San Francisco, help pay their impending European Tour gas bill (it's a loooong drive to Europe from California), and to re-order merchandise to take to Europe. The band will also document their tour with a DVD to be released in the fall of 2014. Thank you for your support! (read more)
